On August 2nd the Champlain Monument in the main channel at the north end of Cognashene will be rededicated in honour of the 400th anniversary of Champlain's arrival on Georgian Bay (almost to the day that he would have passed that spot!). The Monument was originally built in the late 1940's under the direction of a GBA Committee that included Go Home’s Dr. P. J. Robinson. The rededication will take place at 12:30 pm at the monument site. Attendees will raft off the site in boats with brief speeches made by dignitaries on shore. A toast to past, current and future explorers of the Bay will culminate the event. All are welcome.
