David Fletcher Evans (July 19, 1949 to Jan. 18, 2018)

David passed on Thursday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.  A celebration of David's life will take place Thursday, Jan. 25, 1 p.m., at Robertson-Wesley United Church, 10209 123 St., Edmonton Alberta.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Doctors Without Borders.  Gentlemen, please wear a bow tie if you have one.

Patricia Ballantyne

Marjorie Patricia Ballantyne (Site 139)

Patricia Ballantyne passed away peacefully at her home in Collingwood on June 12, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, James F. Ballantyne and sisters Burleigh Leishman, Joan Redfern and cousin Adam Zimmerman, she is survived by her loving sister Dossé Matthews.

She leaves behind her seven children and their spouses Michael, Kelly (Joe Killoran), Charles (Shirley), James (Mary Anne), Tom, Anna (Peter Ilnyckyj), Gretchen (Max Staines), her 13 grandchildren, Mac (Heather), Charley, Michelle, Brittani, Kati, Sarah. James, Carly, Ali, Jacquie, Maddie, Annie, Chloe and her great grandson Mason Killoran.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the compassionate care of Chartwell staff and the Right At Home caregivers, Joanne, Sylvia, Sarah, Donna and Michelle who tenderly cared for our mother in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nature Conservancy of Canada. As were her wishes, a private family service will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto.

New Electronic Newsletters (G-Bay Assoc. and G-Bay Forever)

The Georgian Bay Association and Georgian Bay Forever have converted their regular newsletters to user friendly electronic versions that can be accessed on a special page of the GBA website specifically for Madawaska Club members.

Members are encouraged to visit this site to learn about important subjects such as the latest on OPP and emergency response on the Bay, how to become a Guardian of the Bay, and new rules about Invasive Species and Phragmites control. Plus there are many articles that are of interest for summer readers such as the history of Georgian Bay lighthouses, part 2 of Karl Schiefer's presentation on the unique ecosystems of Georgian Bay and a case study on rescuing a coastal wetland.

If you would still prefer a paper copy of either of these newsletters they will be available at the Go Home Library throughout the summer.

Jocelyn (Joey) Lee (Site 46)

LEE, Jocelyn M. 'Joey' (nee Hodge)

Joey died peacefully on May 4 in Toronto. She is survived by husband Professor Douglas Lee, and children James, Mary (Stephen Patterson), Peggy (Dylan van der Schyff), and Eric, (Rebecca Morton). She leaves grandchildren Dexter and Curtis van der Schyff, Jocelyn and Laura Patterson and Claire and Lucie Lee-Coudouel. Joey also leaves her dearest friend Ann MacIntosh Duff and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews in Canada and the United States.

Joey is predeceased by her sister Margaret (Peggy) Hodge Leake of Bennington, VT (Richard), foster sister Nancy Fraser Brooks (Vernon), and foster brothers Dr. Donald Fraser Jr. (Sally Miller) and Ian Fraser (Kathleen Wittick).

Doug and the family offer heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Christie Gardens for their consistently dedicated care. At her request, Joey's remains will support medical education at the University of Toronto. A memorial will be held at a date to be established. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that donations be made to the Christie Gardens Foundation or other deserving charity.
